A Custom Renovation Project for a Vibrant and Sonorous Space

The dining areas of the École Mission in Papeete, Tahiti, completed their transformation in August 2024 after several months of renovation work. Led by the agency Infinity Architecture, this rehabilitation project reimagined the acoustics and aesthetics of the cafeteria—an essential space in school life.

To address the specific constraints of this elongated building and its high sound reverberation, Rockfon solutions—renowned for their acoustic performance and modularity—emerged as the ideal choice. Over 800 m² of Rockfon Ekla® and Rockfon Eclipse® Customised panels were installed by the company Lucky, significantly improving the students’ acoustic comfort and enhancing the design of the space.

Two complementary and high-performing solutions were chosen. Rockfon Ekla® 600x600 modular ceiling tiles were installed to ensure effective and uniform sound absorption across all areas, while 80 Rockfon Eclipse® Customised acoustic islands—featuring various shapes (triangle, rectangle, circle, hexagon) and custom colors—were selected to complete the design over a surface area of 109 m².

The playful and aesthetic dimension was not overlooked. A mix of primary colors and bold shapes was applied to the panels, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere perfectly suited to children's development within their environment.

"This rehabilitation project perfectly illustrates how a thoughtful approach, combining technical expertise with aesthetic sensitivity, can transform a constrained space into a pleasant, functional, and stimulating environment for its users. Far from being mere noise correctors, Rockfon acoustic panels have proven to be genuine tools for spatial design," said Sabir Lecheheb, architect and manager of Infinity Architecture
